The ROCK Impact Center exists to be a catalyst for sustaining dignity, opportunity, and hope in the Martindale-Brightwood community and beyond by providing safe, accessible, high-quality programs and spaces—rooted in faith, anchored by four pillars, and strengthened through key partnerships.

The Center

What the ROCK Impact Center is

In May 2026, Eastern Star Church closed on the purchase of the former Martin University campus in Martindale-Brightwood — the main building and roughly 28 surrounding parcels. Church leaders described the acquisition as an act of preservation: keeping a major asset in the African-American community in the community's hands.

The ROCK Impact Center is what that building becomes. A landmark two-story facility of approximately 51,896 square feet, it pairs large-scale event space with professional offices, collaborative environments, and specialized amenities — anchoring a 20+ parcel development in the heart of the neighborhood.

It extends the ROCK Initiative, launched by Eastern Star Church in 2017, which has invested more than $25 million in the Arlington Woods neighborhood just minutes east — affordable housing, financial literacy programs, educational resources, and deep community connections. The plans here follow the same blueprint, and the same four pillars.

Expanding the range and quality of housing options for residents at all income levels — development across 20+ parcels for long-term neighborhood stability and ownership opportunity.
Financial literacy
Growing the financial security of residents through education, coaching, access to capital, and pathways to economic self-sufficiency and generational wealth.
Education
Enhancing both formal and informal educational opportunities for children, youth, and adults — creating lifelong learners equipped for a changing world.
Community building & connections
Building a sense of belonging among neighbors by fostering partnerships, shared experiences, and collaborative relationships across the community ecosystem.
